Arne Slot Insists He Feels Secure and Retains The Club's Backing After PSV Eindhoven Humiliation

The Liverpool head coach conceded that it was understandable for questions to be asked about his future following a further heavy loss against PSV Eindhoven.

Liverpool suffered their ninth loss in twelve matches, marking the club's worst run after being relegated in the 1953-54 season.

They were outplayed by the Dutch league champions on a difficult night at their home ground.

“I'm confident, I am OK, I've received plenty of support from above,” the coach stated.

“It would be nice to reverse this trend and secure a win obviously but when you're working as a coach and underperforming then it's expected that questions are asked.”

He continued, “I'm comfortable with my position. This isn't the initial instance I’ve been in a tough spot but it's crucial that we changed our fortunes.”

Discussions with Liverpool Hierarchy

Upon being questioned to expand on his dialogues with the Liverpool hierarchy, Slot said:

“We talk a lot. They assist to the team and for me and we have those conversations but they aren't calling me constantly each day to say they trust me.”

He further stated, “In the normal discussions I sense the belief. However I haven’t spoken to them since this game yet so let’s see.”

Persistent Failings and Squad Response

Slot highlighted familiar shortcomings from his Liverpool side in their European defeat, specifically missed opportunities and defensive lapses.

Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was more forthright in his view of the current crisis.

“I don’t have the answers. Honestly, I don’t. I'm telling that to everybody,” the midfielder remarked.

“It’s just not good enough. I don’t even have to wait to think about it. I'm beyond feeling anger internally. I’m at the point currently where I just don’t have the phrases.”

He went on, “It's tough because I’m playing for the side I follow. I’m a fan, and I've watched Liverpool for years.”

“In recent memory, I've not seen a Liverpool team enduring a period of this nature with results so bad.”

He finished, “But we still have that badge on our chest. And as long as it is removed, we'll continue to fight.”

“We will attempt to help the side return to the top, demonstrate to all once more what Liverpool stands for and why people call it the top club in the planet.”

“At this moment, we’re in the shit and it must improve.”
