Battlefield 6's Casual Game Mode Ignites Intense Discussions Over AI Players, Experience Points, and Queue Times

Recently, the game developers launched a fresh game mode titled Relaxed Breakthrough. To put it simply, this mode mirrors the regular Breakthrough format but features several notable changes:

  • Each team has just eight real players, with the remaining made up of 32 bots.
  • Activities done by human gamers grant full XP, while bot actions offer lower rewards.
  • Only two maps are available: Siege of Cairo and Empire State map.
  • Features like Player tags, achievements, and stat tracking are disabled.

So essentially, the playlist lives up to its name: it's a laid-back version of Breakthrough. On the surface, you might think there's nothing wrong, since it gives additional choices for gamers looking for alternative methods to enjoy the game. But, if video games have taught us anything, it is that not everyone will be happy. Which is to say, many Battlefield 6 players are mad.

Community Reactions: Anger to Praise

"Gamers prefer real players. Don't repeat the mistakes of your rivals," reads a response to the mode reveal. "Absolutely shocking concept," comments another. Meanwhile, in community forums, a player remarks, "It's unclear where we are headed with this title," while another lists everything they consider to be problematic in Battlefield 6: "Resolve glitches, fix drone glitch, correct rocket mechanics, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, improve hit detection. We don't need this AI-heavy playlist."

However, for every complaint, there are players sharing how much they're enjoying the new mode. "It's enjoyable to practice, real players keep it from being a total farmfest but it's quite laid-back," says one Reddit comment. "The community doesn't understand that there are players who have lives and can't play this title all the time. Let them strike a balance," states a different comment. A response on Twitter explains that as they're "a parent gamer with limited time, this is perfect for me," and another applauds the mode for "not being overcompetitive."

Constructive Criticisms and Player Input

All that said, there are valid points to complain about the new mode. A few folks have highlighted that it will make wait times more extended for other modes because of the large amount of playlists in the game already. Similarly, certain regions already encounter AI-filled matches in the existing playlists. It also seems a little backwards that the mode does not begin without a minimum number of real players, even though it primarily centers on fighting AI opponents.

Lastly, a major grievances is that a previous feature was promised to provide full XP, even against bots, but that was removed when they attempted to remove bot farms from the system. Thus this new playlist feels like the community meeting them in the middle, according to a Reddit comment. A different user labels this addition as the developers "dropping the ball so hard, I experienced so much fun in the first couple of days, why did they feel the need to change it?"

Looking Ahead: Adjustments Be Made?

If the development team has demonstrated something so far with the latest installment, it is that they're paying attention and acting on player input. Tasks that were overly hard were adjusted rapidly, as did the required Redsec challenges. It is likely that, if their data indicates this new playlist isn't performing to their standards, they will not hesitate to make further modifications.
