Edwards along with O'Neil represent the initial candidates in the frame to replace the former manager as manager of Wolves.
The previous coach was sacked on Sunday following the squad's ten-game winless start to the top-flight campaign.
Furthermore Edwards and O'Neil - both of who have previous associations to the team - are among the names to be considered by the club ownership.
The manager is presently at another club, which would create a possible obstacle to his appointment at Molineux.
Nevertheless the ex- Luton manager - who played over a century of appearances for the club during his playing career - is considered a leading candidate for the vacancy.
The 42-year-old is reportedly enjoys backing from the club directors as they begin the search of appointing a new manager.
Gary O'Neil is also emerging as a surprise candidate, although he would be a surprising appointment considering he was sacked by the club in December last year.
The ex- West Ham player is currently unemployed which means Wolves would not need to provide any buyout fee.
