Fans Urge Detainment of Individual Who Seized Ariana Grande
Passionate supporters of the pop star are urging that a person who jumped a barricade and seized the celebrity during yesterday's Wicked: For Good launch be arrested or deported from Singapore.
A viral clip depicts the person identified as Johnson Wen shoving aside camera operators and rushing toward Grande while the performers made its way down a event pathway surrounded by fans.
Co-star Cynthia Erivo immediately wrested the stunned star away from Mr Wen, who was observed being led away of the premiere by security officers.
Mr Wen shared on Instagram recently that he was "free after being arrested", though official papers showed that he was scheduled to be present on Friday morning. It is not clear if he was formally accused.
Record of Incidents
This is part of a pattern for Mr Wen, who calls himself a "Notorious Troublemaker", has invaded a concert or event. His Instagram feed contains recordings of him disturbing other high-profile occasions, including rushing the platform at the artist's Sydney show in earlier this year and in a comparable manner during The Chainsmokers concert in the area last winter.
"There needs to be action applied against him as this is obviously a criminal offence," stated an Instagram commenter, in a reply to a video Mr Wen uploaded of his actions.
"Oh wow so you do this a lot... how aren't you in jail?" another Instagram user wrote.
Fans Voice Worry Over Ariana's Safety
Numerous fans criticized Mr Wen for "causing further distress" Grande, who had discussed suffering from trauma-related anxiety after a devastating incident at the end of her 2017 show in Manchester, claiming the lives of 22 people and injuring many.
"The star has endured numerous terrifying experiences... including the Manchester tragedy, and you believed breaching security was amusing?" wrote one more comment on Instagram.
Several fans also questioned event staff at the gathering for not being vigilant enough; while some called for social media platforms to ban Mr Wen's uploads.
Aftermath and Event Details
In videos spreading on the internet, Grande seemed surprised when she was grabbed by the individual. Her fellow actors Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be observed comforting her while Mr Wen was escorted away by security.
Grande has remained silent on the situation, and the premiere activities carried on uninterrupted.
Many of fans had assembled in a crowd of green and pink at the Wicked: For Good international debut in a Singapore shopping center, including some who had queued for as long as many hours before it started.
The film, to be released on the 21st of November, is the sequel of a two-part adaptation of the popular stage production Wicked, which revolves around the surprising relationship between two distinct sorceresses.
The musical itself is a adaptation of the twentieth-century book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who plays the good witch Glinda, was decked out in a champagne pink glittering gown at the premiere while Erivo, who acts as the Elphaba, wore a elegant ensemble embroidered with roses.
They were accompanied by fellow actor Jeff Goldblum.
The initial film, Wicked, was the most successful film of 2024 in the UK, and earned a dozen Academy Award nods, earning two for excellent wardrobe and production design.
