The Details Known About the Those Lost of the Bondi Terror Attack

At least 16 individuals perished and in excess of 40 were wounded when gunmen fired on a Hanukkah celebration at Bondi Beach, a tragedy local police have labeled a terrorist attack.

In the latest update, officials have confirmed the death toll is 16, including one of the alleged gunmen. Furthermore, 42 people with injuries were transported to hospital.

London-born clergyman Eli Schlanger, 41, was the first victim to be named.

Described as a father of five children, he served as the associate rabbi at a local Jewish cultural centre. Family members and acquaintances remembered him as “lively, dynamic, and vibrant and a very warm outgoing person who loved to help people”.

“How is it possible that a joyful rabbi who went to a beach to share joy and positivity, to make the world a better place, have his life ended in this way?” a relative said.

Schlanger and his wife had recently celebrated the birth of their youngest child in October.

Alexander Kleytman

Alexander Kleytman also lost his life, as stated by his wife.

She recounted the events before the shooting, saying they had been standing together when the shooting erupted. “He moved to protect me because he wished to be near me,” she recalled.

The couple were both survivors of the Holocaust, having experienced unspeakable terror in their youth. They had subsequently relocated to Australia from Ukraine.

Dan Elkayam

French authorities have announced that French national Dan Elkayam is a casualty.

Publicly, a senior official expressed that France mourned with his family, the Jewish community, and the Australian people.

“This cowardly attack is a new, tragic manifestation of a disgusting rise of antisemitic hatred that we must eradicate,” the message read.

One Child

A 10-year-old girl who was rushed to the Sydney Children’s Hospital has been confirmed among the fatalities, authorities stated.

One Israeli Citizen

A national of Israel was among those killed in the incident, according to reports citing the Israeli foreign ministry.

Those Injured

From the 42 people transported to hospital, many are still receiving treatment, with a number in critical condition. Those hurt include two officers who responded to the attack.

A wounded man is a bystander who attempted to intervene to confront one of the attackers. Hailed as a hero, he received bullet wounds but is expected to recover in hospital.

Arsen Ostrovsky

One of those wounded is Arsen Ostrovsky, a human rights lawyer. Sources state he was wounded and is receiving treatment in hospital.

He wrote, he described the scene as an “utter carnage,” but also noted the actions of those who came to assist. He said he felt it was a “miracle” he was alive.

Evan Zlatkis

Evan Zlatkis, a media director, was another casualty in the shooting. He told reporters he heard “dozens and dozens” of gunshots.

“Initially, I believed it was rubber bullets, but it’s gone into my own skin and into my leg,” he stated. “I’ve been shot myself. They bandaged me up. I’m ok.”
