The Reze Arc Movie Leads Domestic Box Office in Opening Weekend

Did Sony done it again? In the wake of the box office performance of the blockbuster Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle, which grossed over $600 million globally, Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc has surpassed the $100M mark globally, attaining a global total of over $108 million this weekend. This feature beat out the thriller Black Phone 2 ($12.9M) in its second week in theaters, as well as the film Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere with Jeremy Allen White ($9 million).

Impressive U.S. and International Results

Helmed by filmmaker Tatsuya Yoshihara, the movie is a direct continuation of the debut season of the Chainsaw Man series. It brought in $18.2 million in North America after a strong $5.2 million Saturday and $4.5 million Sunday take. Internationally, the animated by MAPPA film added nearly $15 million across 46 international territories, pushing its worldwide total to $60.4M through Sony distribution ($43.1 million overseas, $18.2 million domestic). Official totals are still pending from Sony its final earnings figure.

Benchmarks to Previous Successful Anime Films

Specialist agency White Box Entertainment had earlier commented, contrasting the movie's expected results to the anime hit Jujutsu Kaisen 0, which earned $34M in the North America in 2022 and debuted with a similar $18M in the U.S.. Reze Arc’s first weekend is in line with that marker, while its $108M worldwide total is now positioned slightly below Jujutsu Kaisen 0’s $166.6M total earnings. Even if it doesn't seem possible the Reze Arc movie will match the box office of blockbuster the record-breaking Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle, nonetheless, it is a huge win for the distributor.

Promotional Efforts Boost Success

Along with its affiliate the anime streaming service Crunchyroll have skillfully used community involvement to drive their supremacy at the anime box office. The Reze Arc promotional efforts kicked off at the Anime Expo in LA in summer with a discussion featuring MAPPA, exclusive activations, and Pochita photo ops, then continued with a significant involvement at the New York Comic Con showcasing exclusive clips, lotteries for fans, and further MAPPA discussions. Additionally, there was an special preview for fans for general audiences and popular figures too after the final day of the gathering.

Future Prospects

2025 is a major time for anime, and for the studio, which has another feature-length anime releasing this year in the film Jujutsu Kaisen: Execution in late this year.
