Tottenham Boss Thomas Frank Labels Goalkeeper Booers 'Not True Genuine Fans'
The Cottagers Begin Powerfully to Beat Tottenham and Raise Pressure on the Manager
Spurs supporters who booed goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario were told afterwards "they can't be true Tottenham fans" by manager Frank.
Tottenham conceded a pair of goals in the opening six minutes to lose 2-1 to Fulham, registering their tenth top-flight at home loss of the year.
But the main topic of discussion was the visitors' second score when the keeper lost the ball far beyond his box.
The goalkeeper ventured out to deal with a long ball and carried the ball near the sideline.
But, instead of booting it out of play, the Italy international turned and tried to clear away, but lost his footing as the ball glanced off Wilson and was collected by King.
King laid the ball off to Wales midfield player Harry Wilson, who curled a strike into the goal from the sideline recorded at thirty-six point six yards.
Seconds later when the ball went to the keeper once more, a number of Spurs fans jeered him.
Spurs were booed off at half-time, with the side 2-0 behind, and once more at full-time.
One of those booing sessions really angered the manager.
"I heard some of our supporters apparently jeered the situation and booed after, which, in my view is totally unjustifiable," the Dane commented about the supporters' reaction to his shot-stopper.
"Those individuals cannot be true Spurs supporters that act that way. Alright jeering after the game, no problem, but when we are in play, we are supporting one another, we are behind each other going forward."
Tete had handed the visitors a fourth-minute lead prior to Wilson's goal – with Mohammed Kudus netting for Tottenham in an better second period showing.
Former Premier League goalkeeper Hart remarked that the second goal was "totally preventable".
"I certainly understand the fans' disappointment," Hart continued. "I am aware the part Vicario is playing. He's a excellent team player, he's a true figure in the locker room but ultimately you are going to be judged by your decisions.
"The keeper was deeply involved in what turned out to be the decisive score."
'It is In the Game, I Can Handle It'
Thomas Frank Defended His Keeper Guglielmo Vicario Following the Game
Italy international Vicario is in his 3rd season with Spurs.
The 29-year-old said following the game that he had to accept the criticism.
"The second score was a mistake of my own, I take responsibility for it," he commented.
"My aim was to clear the ball long and I simply struck the ball in a poor manner. It was an even bigger mountain to climb."
He stated being booed "is part of football".
"I am mature, what can I say?" he added. "We can't be influenced by the circumstances in the crowd. The fans have the right to do as they see fit.
"It's on us to remain more composed, to focus on our own performance. The team is lacking in composure and calmness to reverse outcomes. This match is a poor defeat and it's hard to accept."
'I Was Surprised No One Went Back to the Line'
Despite Vicario's mistake, it was far from an easy score for Harry Wilson to convert.
In fact it was the next longest-range top division goal of the campaign – following Tyler Adams' forty-three point three yard strike for the Cherries against Sunderland, which incidentally also came on Saturday.
Wilson said he was "somewhat surprised" that he still had an empty goal to aim for.
10 seconds elapsed between the keeper exiting of his box and the midfielder striking – which was five seconds after the clearance.
"It seemed to me like the goalkeeper was out of the area for a long time," Wilson said.
"I was surprised not one of the defenders returned to the goal line. When none of them defended the net, my interest sparked somewhat.
"[Destiny] Udogie slipped too, which allowed me a little additional opportunity. After that it was solely about attempting to make the right connection and get it on target. I had a good feeling, the moment it left my boot, that it was heading in."
'During in a Bad Spell, Everything Appears to Work Against You'
Booing While We Are Still in Play Is Completely Unjustifiable - Frank
While the keeper's mistake led headlines, this was an all-round poor performance for Spurs to extend their home ground struggles.
The match was their 10th at home defeat of the year in the Premier League, a joint club statistic matching nineteen ninety-four and two thousand and three.
The side still have home games against Frank's old side the Bees and champions Liverpool to come prior to the close of the year.
Just a single of those wins have come after the manager took over from his predecessor in the summer.
"When you're behind 2-0 after the opening, there is a huge challenge to overcome," stated the boss.
"During in a poor run, all aspects appears to go against you as well – the first was a redirected shot, the second is a mistake from the keeper.
"The outcome puts us in a place where we have suffered an additional game. Every game has a unique story, today we lost in the early stages.
"We just need to continue striving. The second half was significantly improved and with luck something we can utilize to learn."
Tottenham have been defeated in 4 consecutive home capital clashes for the initial time in the Premier League.
Furthermore they are averaging 9.5 shots and 3.2 efforts on goal per game in the division – their poorest averages on record in a one season (since at least 2003-04).
Former Fulham midfielder Murphy stated that Frank has to ride the storm.
"He's got accept the criticism," Murphy said. "He's accepted a high profile role at a major team with massive anticipation. There is pressure and responsibility that comes with that.
"Their showings at their stadium have been poor and they have to get better {quickly|
